Cancer support group meets
The cancer support group that meets on the last Tuesday of each month at Teshima’s restaurant on Honalo will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Those newly diagnosed with cancer and cancer survivors are welcome, as well as caregivers and family members.
The group meets to share cancer related issues and to lend support to one another. Women are encouraged to learn about breast cancer risks and early detection to help make informed decisions.

Read Aloud Shakespeare gathering coming up
The Read Aloud Shakespeare group meets from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The group gathers once a month to read in Keauhou the Bard’s plays, and will resume “Othello” at Act 2, Scene 3. Shakespeare fans are invited to bring copies of the play and join in. Participants take turns reading the parts; no previous Shakespeare or acting ability is required.

Learn to lead caregiving classes
Hawaii Community Caregiver Network is sponsoring a free, two-day class leader training workshop on conducting Powerful Tools for Caregivers classes.
The workshop will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 3 and June 10 at the Regency at Hualalai, 75-181 Hualalai Road, Kailua-Kona.
The workshop will train volunteers to co-lead Powerful Tools for Caregivers classes in their communities. Such classes have helped more than 80,000 family caregivers nationwide develop self-care techniques to manage the stress associated with caring for someone with a chronic disease.
This class leader training workshop will also include a GRANDcares curriculum to address issues that grandparents face when caring for their grandchildren. Participants must attend both training days, then agree to co-lead two class series within a year.

Kona Historical Society closed temporarily
Kona Historical Society will temporarily close from Monday through June 2 at both historic sites in Kealakekua and Captain Cook to accommodate for preservation, planning, and repair projects.
Kona Historical Society’s monthly Hanohano O Kona lecture series, scheduled for Wednesday at the West Hawaii Civic Center, will not be affected by the closure.
