APAC cast deserves curtain call
My sincerest mahalo to the Aloha Performing Arts Company for its most enjoyable presentation of William Gibson’s “The Miracle Worker” that opened Friday night at the Aloha Theatre.
The acting by the entire cast was outstanding, and the stars, Nicole Gour and 10-year-old Lotus Lyn Bus, deserve special kudos for their moving portrayals of Annie Sullivan and Helen Keller.
They brought tears of joy to my eyes. This is a show you shouldn’t miss. Our community has been blessed with a theater company that continues to bring quality, live entertainment and theater education to our community that greatly enhances our life experience.

Canada is not your enemy, America
If you are wondering where the Canadian tourists have gone, consider this. We can cope with the low exchange rate. We love Hawaii and the Hawaiian people but there is another bigger problem looming in the distance.
The US has decided to start a trade war with Canada. Not really an even fight. They are attacking our soft wood lumber industry, which was already decimated since the last NAFTA agreement. In Canada many small lumber towns now have no industry or jobs, but somehow the current administration has decided that Canada is the enemy. Somehow our small dairy industry has become a threat to their massive dairy industry. What can we do?
As a private citizen the only thing we can do is decide on where we spend our tourist dollars. It won’t be in the US until the current administration is out of office and sanity returns to politics. I am not alone in this opinion.
I say this with great sadness since I have enjoyed many trips to Hawaii in the winter and several great car trips through the Western US. I was planning more trips to Hawaii, but that will not be realized now. Instead, I will use my tourist dollars in other places around the world where we will feel more welcome.
It is unfortunate that the US has become the bully in the world. We used to have a good, friendly relationship and I loved travelling in the US.

Paper should prioritize better
What are the values of the West Hawaii Today newspaper? One front page features a full half- page color picture of a convicted violent vigilante. Your reader wakes up to that visual!
On the other hand, on May 8, great news that all students can now afford to go to college is buried on page 6. This information would have been of much greater interest and value to our community.
Your newspaper reflects and also guides the values of a community. I have always thought that WHT did a good job presenting community news in a positive manner. This example did not reflect that mission.
