First Hawaiian Bank and Hawaii Police Department are partnering to sponsor the Annual “Troy Barboza Law Enforcement Torch Run/Walk” on Sunday. It is a benefit for Special Olympics West Hawaii.

The “Troy Barboza Law Enforcement Torch Run” is a non-competitive run/walk, and the purpose is to raise awareness and funds for the athletes of Special Olympics Hawaii. In Hawaii, the Torch Run is named after fallen Honolulu Police Officer Troy Barboza, who volunteered as a Special Olympics coach and participated in the first Torch Run in Hawaii held in 1985.

The West Hawaii Torch Run/Walk will begin at 8:45 a.m. at First Hawaiian Bank in Kailua-Kona. Participants will proceed down Palani Road to Alii Drive and turn around at Hale Halewai, back track to Palani and left at Kuakini Highway to the Old Airport behind the Kona Aquatic Center. A Special Olympics Athlete will then light the cauldron to begin the opening ceremonies of the Special Olympics Regional Softball Area Games.

We humbly ask for your support in this year’s Torch Run.

Donations of $30 are requested and donors will receive a 2017 commemorative Torch Run Dri Fit Shirt. Sizes and styles are limited. Interested participants should call Kit Neppl at 987-5752.
