HILO — A 71-year-old Keaau man is accused of sexually molesting a 14-year-old girl last month in Puna.
A Hilo grand jury returned a five-count indictment April 27 charging Bryan Thomas Miller Sr. with four counts of third-degree sexual assault and a single count of fourth-degree sexual assault.
A bench warrant issued with the indictment set Miller’s bail at $22,000.
Miller was arrested and charged April 7 for a single count of third-degree sexual assault, a charge also included in the indictment. He posted $2,000 bail and made an initial appearance Tuesday in Hilo District Court. Court records indicate Miller was informed about the indictment, which moves his case to Hilo Circuit Court.
The indictment alleges Miller exposed himself to and “knowingly engaged in sexual contact” with the minor.
Third-degree sexual assault is a Class C felony punishable by up to five years imprisonment upon conviction, while fourth-degree sexual assault is a misdemeanor carrying a possible sentence of a year in jail.
A search of court records turned up no criminal convictions for Miller in Hawaii.
