Laau Lapaau. Delve into the world of laau lapaau (Hawaiian herbal medicine) with practitioner, Momi Subiono. The workshop is from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, on the Kilauea Visitor Center lanai.

Managing Rapid Ohia Death. Ohiaa, the keystone Hawaiian forest species, is under attack by a new fungal disease. Park Ecologist David Benitez will share the lessons learned since rapid ohia death was first identified in 2014. The talk is at 5:30 p.m. May 12 at Cooper Center in Volcano Village.

Stewardship at the Summit. Volunteers are needed to help remove invasive, nonnative plants that prevent native plants from growing. Wear sturdy hiking shoes and long pants. Bring a hat, raingear, day pack, snacks and water. Gloves and tools are provided. No advance registration is required. There is no cost to participate, but park entrance fees apply. Meet project leaders Paul and Jane Field at 8:45 a.m. May 6, 12, 20 and 26 at the Kilauea Visitor Center.

Haunani’s Aloha Expressions. Enjoy an evening of music and hula of Haunani’s Aloha Expressions. These energetic kupuna have competed at and won various hula festivals. The performance is from 6:30-8 p.m. May 17 in the Kilauea Visitor Center Auditorium.

Konane. Play konane, an ancient Hawaiian game of strategy that is reminiscent of checkers, from 10 a.m. to noon May 24 on the Kilauea Visitor Center lanai.

Commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Midway. The talk will honor the service of our veterans, their sacrifices, and the wildlife they helped preserve. It is planned at 7 p.m. May 30 in the Kilauea Visitor Center Auditorium.
