Gladys Berrios
Gladys “Lally” “Gramma B” Naihe Berrios, 81, of Hilo died March 31, 2017, at home. Born March 28, 1936, in Kohala, she was a retired truck driver for Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Corp. and a member of Heritage Christian Fellowship, Tsukikage Odorikai Bon Dance Group, ILWU Local 142, Hilo Pensioners Club, Kamana Senior Center Tai Chi, Line Dancing and Zumba Groups, and Trekkie Club – Klingon Assault Group.
Visitation will be held from 8:30-10 a.m. April 29 at Heritage Christian Fellowship, Hilo with a 10 a.m. service. Burial will follow at Homelani Memorial Park, Ilima Section. Casual attire.
She is survived by sons, Steve (Lori) Berrios and Stacey Berrios; brothers, Robert (Daisy) Naihe and Herbert Naihe; sister, Margo Gonsalves; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Michael Hiraoka
Michael Masami “Kong” Hiraoka, 61, of Hilo died March 19, 2017, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a meat cutter with Kulana Foods and Sack ‘n Save Foods, and a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers, Local 480.
There will be a celebration of life from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 29 at Bay Front, Hilo with a 2 p.m. scattering of ashes. The family requests casual attire and that loose flowers are welcome.
He is survived by brother, Alan Hiraoka of Hilo; sister, Lynne (Calvin) Pitoy of Hilo; Uncle, Ronald Nishimoto of Phoenix; numerous cousins; one nephew, one niece.

Patricia O’Toole
Patricia Kathrine O’Toole, 67, of Hilo died March 11, 2017, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born Aug. 13, 1949, in Honolulu, she was an attorney and formerly employed by the Public Defender’s office on Oahu. She was also employed by the County of Hawaii as Deputy Corporation Counsel and retired as Assistant Corporation Counsel. She was a member of the Hawaii State Bar Association, Hawaii County Bar Association, Big Island Women Lawyers Association, Democratic Party, Zonta Club of Hilo, Ulala Red Hat Society, Naval Air Station (NAS) Pool “Mermaids”, Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) Pool Group and Kamana Senior Center.
A celebration of life will be from 2-4 p.m. April 29 at Church of the Holy Cross Building of Faith. Casual attire is requested. No flowers. No monetary offerings.
She is survived by numerous cousins.

George Place
George Abraham Place, 94, of Kailua-Kona died April 5, 2017, at his residence. Born in Ualapue, Molokai on Oct. 29, 1922, he was a retired shipwright at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. He was a sport fisherman, U.S. Army veteran and a member of the American Legion.
Friends may call at 9 a.m. April 29 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Honaunau. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. followed by burial in the Saints Family Cemetery in Keei. The family requests aloha attire and flowers are welcome.
He is survived by his companion, Phoebe Andrews of Aiea, Oahu; sons, George A. Place Jr., of Honaunau, and David Lindsey (Susan) Place of Bremerton, Wash; daughters, Stephanie Place of Kailua-Kona, Wilma Place of Kealia, Maunahina (Richard) Conradt of Honaunau, and Namahana (Carl) Nozaki of Kealakekua; brothers, Chevalier Buster (Marjorie) Place of Waianae, Oahu, Damien Place, Rhinehardt (Julie) Place, and Milton (Linda) Place, all of Pukoo, Molokai; sisters, Hazel Kaakimaka of Waipahu, Oahu, Rhoda (Kenneth) Chong Kee of Waiehukou, Maui, Karen Joao of Kaunakakai, Molokai, and Zaidarene Kalipi of Pukoo, Molokai; daughter-in-law; 25 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Maria Tailon
Maria “Tita” Tailon, 75, of Naalehu died April 17, 2017, in Kealakekua. Born Nov. 2, 1941, in South Kona, she worked as teacher’s assistant, childcare provider, and a homemaker.

Scott Hokoana
Scott Punahou Hokoana, 70, of Hilo died April 14, 2017, at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Hilo, he was a heavy equipment operator and a member of the Operating Engineers Local 3 and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. April 30 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for an 11 a.m. service. Friends may also call at noon May 1 at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 for a graveside urn committal service. The family requests casual attire.
He is survived by wife, B.J. Hokoana of Honolulu; daughter, Moana (Kepa Kekaualua) Kelii of Hilo; brothers, Clifford (Mary Lou) Hokoana of Pahoa, HI and Louis (Rosemary) Hokoana of Hilo; sister, Hualani Toledo of Hilo; two granddaughters; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
