KAILUA-KONA — Two brush fires scorched about a half acre of land Tuesday afternoon in Ka’u.
At approximately 1:55 p.m., Hawaii County firefighters got the alarm for the first fire located directly off of Kaalaiki Road, according to a press release from Hawaii County Fire Department.
After flames were extinguished and mop up completed, the release states, another brush was discovered about one mile below Kaalaiki Road in a remote gulch by the macadamia nut orchards.
Both fires consumed about .25 acres of land.
The cause is undetermined.
“Both brush fires happened in remote areas with no signs of natural ignition, within a very short time of each other,” the release states.
