Plans brewing for coffee expo, roasting workshop
The 10th annual Kona Coffee EXPO is planned from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday in the Makaeo Pavilion at Old Kona Airport Park.
The event is free and open to the public. Vendors representing services and equipment for coffee and small farming will be on hand to answer questions. Vendors including the U.S. Department of Agriculture and University of Hawaii College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources will share information about coffee beetle borer.
A presentation by the Kona Coffee Farmers Association called “Roasts – How each is unique,” will be at 12:15 p.m. A roasting workshop will take place Saturday. Reservations are required. It is free to members, of $10 for nonmembers.

Learn to Cha Cha in Waimea
The Waimea Ballroom Dance Club announces six weeks of Cha Cha lessons starting Monday at the Kahilu Town Hall. 67-1182 Lindsey Road, Waimea. Cost is $30 for all lessons. No partner is necessary. The club is a Blue Zones organization. Lance Oliver is the instructor.
Registration is at 6:30 p.m. on the first two weeks only. Lessons from 7-8 p.m. Mondays followed by half-hour practice mixer.

Kiwanis meets Wednesday
Kiwanis of Kailua-Kona will meet at 5:30 pm on Wednesday at Makalei Golf Club, 72-3890 Hawaii Belt Road, Kailua-Kona, 325-6625. All visiting Kiwanis and prospective members are invited. The speaker will be Karen Rose from VASH (Visitors Aloha Society of Hawaii).
Kiwanis looks to serve the community by conducting service projects that respond to identified needs, especially related to children.

Seniors to attend free movie
The Kailua-Kona Seniors will attend a free movie at 10 a.m. Wednesday at West Civic Center, Building A.
The event is open to all seniors. The movie is “The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed out the Window.” After living a long and colorful life, Allan finds himself in a nursing home. On his 100th birthday, he leaps out a window and begins an unexpected journey.
There is no meeting at Hale Halawai this week.

Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park has several upcoming closures planned to ensure safety during the removal of invasive vegetation by helicopters. All closures are from 6-10 a.m.
