The monthly meeting of Aloha Quilters of Kona begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Living Stones Church at Pine Trees Plaza, 73-4040 Hulikoa Drive in Kailua-Kona.
Aloha Quilters of Kona is composed of quilters working in both traditional and Hawaiian styles. The group meets informally on the third Saturday of each month to share old and new ideas and techniques and to promote the art of quilting in the community. New members, novice quilters or “old hands” are welcome.

Indonesian fruit hunting trip discussed
The next meeting of the West Hawaii chapter of Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers will be from 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers office at 81-6393 Mamalahoa Highway.
Nonmembers are welcome. All are encouraged to bring fruit for sharing. Elie Ednie will show photos and discuss his recent fruit hunting trip across Indonesia.

Road to Kaloko Fishpond closed for coconut tree trimming
The access road to Kaloko Fishpond and the parking lot will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday for coconut tree trimming.
The road is off Highway 19 between mile markers 96 and 97.

The Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce invites the public to its monthly AfterHours networking event and Kuleana Green Business Fair from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Jack’s Diving Locker in the Coconut Grove Marketplace.
Co-hosted by chamber’s SustAINAbility Committee and Jack’s Diving Locker, the pau hana affords attendees the chance to link with other businesses. In addition, the Chamber’s Kuleana Green Business Fair will feature local vendors showcasing green goods and services.
Refreshments and pupu are served. Cost is $15 for chamber members and first-time nonmembers or $30 for repeat nonmembers.

Professor discusses effects of El Nino
on coral population
Katryn Wiese, professor of geology and oceanography with 20 years of teaching experience from the City College of San Francisco, will discuss the effects of El Nino on Hawaii’s coral population.
The talk is at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the amphitheater at Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park.
