KAILUA-KONA — A man was arrested for DUI after crashing into a power pole near Hualalai Road and knocking out power for Hawaii Electric customers Tuesday night, according to police.

KAILUA-KONA — A man was arrested for DUI after crashing into a power pole near Hualalai Road and knocking out power for Hawaii Electric customers Tuesday night, according to police.

The accident occurred at about 9:20 p.m. According to Hawaii police, a 53-year-old man crashed into a power pole between Nani Kailua and Aloha Kona Drives. After striking the pole, authorities say, the motorist drove off but was located shortly after.

Hualalai Road was closed between Nani Kailua and Aloha Kona Drives overnight. It reopened Wednesday morning. Power has since been restored.
