Gary Sine

Gary Sine, 62 of Kohala died April 5, 2017, at The Queens Medical Center. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, he was a carpenter.

Friends may call at for a service from 10 a.m. to noon at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kohala Ward. Casual attire and no flowers.

He is survived by mother, Kelii Sine of Kohala; stepfather, Ray Chavez of Kohala; sister, Leianne (Scott) Buie of Salt Lake City, Utah; many nieces and nephews.

Adeline Kualapai

Adeline Iwa Kualapai, 89, of Puna, died March 25, 2017, at a care home. Born in Koae, Puna, she was self-employed and a member of Hilo Lions Club and Keola Pono No Na Kupuna.

Private services were held.

She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

Wilfred Dias

Wilfred Nalu Doggie Dias, 72 of Waihee, Maui formally from Kona died April 4, 2017, at Maui Memorial Medical Center. He was born on May 15, 1944, in Lanai City, Lanai. He was retired from the Kona Surf Hotel in the Maintenance Department.

Visitation will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. April 28 at Ballard Family Mortuary on Kahului, Maui, with a 6:30 p.m. service. Visitation continues from 9-10 a.m. April 29 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Waihee, Maui, with an 11 a.m. Mass. Cremation will follow. Condolences may be posted at www.ballardfamilymortuaries.com.

He is survived by his wife, Marian Dias; sons, Kevin (Marisa) Kiyonaga, Steven (Lori) Kiyonaga; daughters, Tyrell Dias, Renee Kiyonaga-Moyer; brothers, Daniel (Trinka) Dias, Gregory (Ranell) Kaialiilii Sr., Glenn Kahae; 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren.

Ernestine Hekekia

Ernestine Karen Uilani Akimseu Hekekia, 66, of Hilo died March 24, 2017, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Nov. 15, 1950, in Hilo, she was a central supply technician for Hilo Medical Center.

Visitation will be held from 4-5 p.m. April 15 at Dodo Mortuary chapel, Hilo; with a 5 p.m. funeral service. Cremation will follow. Casual attire.

She is survived by husband, Joseph Hekekia Sr. of Mountain View; daughters, Elizabeth (Warren Wailani) Walker of Mountain View, Umi – A-Liloa Hekekia of Kurtistown; sons, Joseph Ulu (Julie Mahoe) Hekekia of Waiakea Uka and Keawenui – A-Umi (Trisha) Hekekia of Panaewa; hanai daughters, Sarina Amaral of Panaewa, Amanda Batalona of Salt Lake, Oahu; brothers, Ernest Aaron (Paula) Akimseu of Salt Lake City, Utah, Terry (Teresa) Akimseu of Mulino, Ore., Gary (Cynthia Lehua) Akimseu of Panaewa, Larry (Brenda) Akimseu of Keaukaha, Everett Akimseu of Hilo, Ernie Ah Sing (Serina) Akimseu of Kapolei, Oahu; sisters, Sharon (Larry) Akimseu-Victorino, Elizabeth Tita (Karl Blackie) Kataoka, all of Panaewa; hanai brother, Darryl Bissen of Kona; hanai sister, Agnes Lani Borges of Ewa Beach, Oahu; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
