Praise concert planned at Lanihau Center

A Beyond 4 Walls Kona praise and worship concert is planned from 4-8 p.m. Saturday at Lanihau Shopping Center.

Music will be provided by Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, Kona Bible Church, New Hope Legacy, Shorebreak Church and YWAM Kona. There will be free raffle prize giveaways throughout the event, hula performances, free water and face painting for the kids.

Attendees should bring a chair.

Kona Literacy Center discusses services, volunteer opportunities

Kailua-Kona Public Library hosts the Kona Literacy Center for a casual informational talk regarding volunteering as a literacy tutor and getting a free and private reading tutor to improve reading and writing skills.

The talk is from 2-3 p.m. Saturday.

Free dance class offered for Parkinson’s patients

The spring series of Hawaii Dance for Parkinson’s will be held from 1-2:15 p.m. Wednesdays April 12 – June 14.

The free class is offered at Hale Halawai, 76-6224 Alii Drive. Drop-ins are encouraged and welcome. Dance experience is not necessary and all levels and can start anytime in the series. Caregivers, family and friends are welcome.

The class is taught by Marie Snyder who is a Wertheimer Fellow of Dance for PD. The class empowers participants to enjoy movement, music and dance. Participants will explore elements of modern dance, ballet, social dancing and repertory from various choreography in an enjoyable, non-pressured environment.

VFW schedule announced

VFW Post 12122 behind Kona Locksmith off Kaiwi Street will host several events this week.

A VFW special meeting will be conducted at 10:30 on Friday to install newly elected officers. They are Commander Pat Pastor, Sr. Vice Commander Dale Ross, Jr. Vice Commander Paul Bowman, Quartermaster Bob Vergano, Chaplain Charles Sermon, Two-Year Trustee Don Zero, Three-Year Trustee Don Gainey.

Pasta will be served with salad and dessert for $5 beginning at 5 p.m. Friday. The public is invited.

The VFW Auxiliary meets at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the post.

The post will be closed on Easter Sunday.

Travel conversation club meets at library

The “Not Just a Book Club Travel Conversation Circle” offers opportunity for conversation about recent travel experiences, new travel planning ideas, favorite itineraries and destinations, new travel books and tools to use the internet to enhance travel experience.

The group meets from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Kailua-Kona Public Library.
