Hapuna Beach Park is open Saturday, a day after the popular South Kohala ocean recreation spot was closed amid warning-level surf that hit the Big Island’s west-facing shores Friday.

The high surf warning was also reduced to an advisory shortly before 9 a.m. Saturday by the National Weather Service. It remains in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday. Forecasters expect 6- to 10-foot waves along west-facing shores of the Kona and Ka’u coasts.
