KAILUA-KONA — Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce Director Kirstin Kahaloa is stepping away from her position, the chamber announced Monday.
Kahaloa, who led the organization for two years, is departing the post for family and business reasons. She is leaving March 30.
“With the positive forward momentum our chamber has achieved in the past two years, this organization is well positioned to not only continue its important work, but to grow and address the future needs of the business community in West Hawaii,” Kahaloa said in press release.
She thanked the chambers members, who she credited with leading West Hawaii’s economy and offering residents opportunities for success. She pointed to increased tourism and project like the addition of international flights to Kona’s airport as examples that the economy here is heading in the right direction.
“It has been an honor to work alongside our board of directors, our staff, and most importantly – you, our members,” she said. “When your voice is clear and collective through your chamber, it truly resonates with our elected officials and other decision makers. Never underestimate the impact of your advocacy.”
The chamber said the two-year partnership provided many successes, but aging grandparents and family businesses would require more of Kahaloa’s time.
“On behalf of the board of directors and the West Hawaii community, we want to thank Kirstin Kahaloa for her leadership and service as the executive director for Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce,” Dale Suezaki, Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce Board Chair, said. “Her grace and enthusiasm has positively impacted the organization and community. We understand the need to turn her attention to her family and wish her much success and happiness in her future endeavors.”
