Group to make dresses for low income children
The Waikoloa Village and Kona Chapters of Dress a Girl Around the World will join forces for an “Easter Time With Love” sewing project to make dresses for girls ages 2-8 of lower income families on the Big Island to be distributed April 10.
Donations of cotton fabric in assorted springtime colors or funds to purchase fabric may be dropped off between 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. any Wednesday at the Waikoloa Community Room or from 1-4 p.m. any Monday at Living Stones Church on Alii Drive.
Chapter members don’t need to know how to sew. There are a variety of tasks that assist the sewing teams. Last year, the combined chapters made more than 7,000 dresses that were distributed to girls on Hawaii Island and were also sent to various countries including Haiti, Uganda, Malaysia and the Philippines.
A social and kick-off event is planned from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Discount Fabric Warehouse in Kona.
