Evaline Sylvia Lawrence, 92, of Hilo died Jan. 14, 2017, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a homemaker and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Feb. 16 at Dodo Mortuary chapel where a wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Friends may also call from 8:30-10 a.m. Feb. 17 at St. Joseph Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. Mass, followed by burial at the Homelani Memorial Park. The family requests that casual attire be worn.
She is survived by sons, Everett Lawrence of Virginia, Frank (Claudia) Lawrence of Mountain View, Patrick (Phyllis) Lawrence of Honomu; daughters, Doreen (James) Namahoe of Hilo, Bernadette Lawrence of Pahoa, Kathleen Ke of Pahala; 18 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Henry Anakalea
Henry Kauai Anakalea, 84, of Hilo died Jan. 27, 2017, at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired custodian with the State Of Hawaii, Department Of Education and an Army veteran. He was also a member of Haili Church and Kuhio Chapel and of the Haili Choir.
Friends may call from 4-5 p.m. Feb 17 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 5 p.m. service. The family requests casual attire and that flowers be omitted.
He is survived by wife, Oinah Anakalea of Hilo; sons, Thomas Anakalea of Hilo, Leonard (Jaime) Anakalea of Wailuku, Maui; two grandsons; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Sawae Higashi
Sawae Higashi, 92, of Hilo died Jan. 18, 2017, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Laupahoehoe, she was a retired head custodian at Laupahoehoe High &Elementary School and member of Papaaloa Hongwanji Mission.

Evonelle Hurley
Mrs. Evonelle “Evon” “Mrs. E” Hinano Hurley, 68, of Captain Cook died Feb. 3, 2017, at her residence. Born on April 12, 1948, in Ka’u, she was a retired educational assistant at Kahakai and Konawaena Elementary schools. She was a family facilitator for West Hawaii Family Support Services and an assistant coordinator for the Kamakana Playground at Higashihara Park.
Visitation will be at 8:30 a.m. Feb.18 at the Hawaii Big Game Fishing Clubhouse at Honokohau Harbor in Kailua-Kona. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. followed by burial at Kona Memorial Park in Holualoa. Luncheon will be at the clubhouse. Casual attire. Flowers are welcome.
She is survived by sons, Hugh (Monica) Hurley, Jr., of Kamuela, Chet G.K. (Heidi) Hurley, and Gavin (Crystal) Hurley, all of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Sweetie Hurley of Madora, Ind., Cherisse (Donal) Hurley Catlin of Aubrey, Texas, Britt Hurley of Kailua-Kona; brother, Jessie Valera of Kealakekua; sisters, Alvine (Leroy) Victorine of Hilo, Primrose (Billy) Paulos of Montana, and Dayne (Smokey) Snell of Captain Cook; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Benny Lee Rapoza, 61, of Keaau died Jan. 9, 2017, at his residence. He was born Nov. 28, 1955, in Hilo.

Mitsue Kajiyama, 92, of Hilo died Dec. 24, 2016, at home. Born in Olaa, she was a retired seamstress and homemaker. She was also a member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin. Private family services were held. The family requests that monetary donations be omitted.
She is survived by son, Edmund Kajiyama of Honolulu; daughters, Karen (Paul) Mitsuyoshi, Leatrice (Roy) Yamamoto, both of Hilo; brothers, Akinobu (Aiko) Muranaka of Torrence, Calif., Jack (Jean) Muranaka of Honolulu; sister, Hisayo Kubo of Pahoa; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Jean Ells
Jean Hiroko Ells, 94, of Hilo died Jan. 20, 2017. Born Jan. 19, 1923, in Hilo, she taught third grade at St. Joseph’s Elementary School and completed her career teaching at Hilo Union School. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
