Morimoto makes chancellor’s list
Tianna Morimoto of Kealakekua made the chancellor’s list at Chapman University in Orange County, Calif. To make the list, students must have a GPA of at least 3.5 and carry at least 15 credits per semester.
She is a communications and broadcast journalism major and was recently accepted into the School of Dodge At Chapman University, which is Dodge College of Film and Media Arts.
She is the daughter of Jann and Gene Morimoto of Kealakekua.
Volunteers sought to organize Walk to End Alzheimer’s
Alzheimer’s Association is searching for volunteers to help organize the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Hilo and Kona.
The Hilo walk will occur on Sept. 16 and the Kona walk is scheduled for Oct. 7. Volunteers will help organize the event and will have support from Island of Hawaii Program Coordinator, Chris Ridley as well as from staff in Oahu. The tasks include all sorts of jobs.

Nominations sought for Outstanding Older American
May is Older Americans Month and Hawaii County will celebrate the Older Americans of Hawaii Island at the annual Outstanding Older Americans Luncheon May 5 in Waikoloa.
Do you know an outstanding older American who is at least 60 years old? Nominations for recognition at the luncheon are being accepted until March 10. Call the Hawaii County Office of Aging at 961-8600 to obtain nomination applications.
Valentine’s activities for youth planned
at libraries
Stop by the Children’s Section of the Kailua-Kona Library in February to participate in a variety of activities that celebrate love with coloring bookmarks and solving picture riddles for small prizes while supplies last. Activities are suitable for ages 5-11 with an adult caregiver.
At the Kealakekua Library enjoy making Valentine crafts for ages 15 years and up on Feb. 14 starting at 1 p.m.

Buddhist temple hosts monthly

The Rev. Bruce Nakamura of the Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple will host a monthly one-hour talk story called Pure Land Practices: What To Do in Spiritual Crisis. Interested dharma seekers, members and friends are invited to meet from 7-8:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month through April in the conference room behind the main sanctuary. The public is invited.
