Raymond Kawahara
Raymond Jitsu Kawahara, 76, of Hilo died Jan. 13, 2017, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Waikamalo, Ninole, he was a store room clerk with the former Naniloa Hotel and a member of New Apostolic Church.
Friends may call from 9-10 a.m. Feb. 10 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 10 a.m. service. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at the Homelani Memorial Park. The family requests that casual attire be worn.
He is survived by wife, Pearl Kawahara of Hilo; sisters, Clara Norman of Washington, Vivian Aoki of Honolulu, Dorothy (George) Hirowatari of Ninole, Elsa Yoshioka of Pepeekeo; several nieces and nephews.

Paul Rapoza Sr.
Paul “Popo” Rapoza, Sr., 55, of Paauilo died Jan. 15, 2017, at home. Born Jan. 19, 1961, in Hilo, he was a construction worker for numerous companies.
Visitation will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Feb. 10 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Laupahoehoe with a 10 a.m. memorial Mass. Refreshments to follow at Church Hall.
He is survived by children, Paul (Joanne) Rapoza Jr. of Seattle, Rozlynn Rapoza of Hawaiian Paradise Park; mother, Betty Rapoza of Paauilo; siblings, Derek (Jen) Rapoza of Honokaa, Kelly Rapoza, Simplicio (Cookie) Carpio Jr. of Paauilo, Marcia Doctor of Pahoa and Peggy Rapoza of Waimea; two grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Benjamin Salmo
Benjamin “Aming” Serdenia Salmo Sr., 93, of Naalehu died Jan. 8, 2017, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Oct. 7, 1923, in Sisim, Cabugao, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, he was a retired crew chief for the former Ka’u Sugar Co. and an Air Force veteran.
An all-night vigil will held at 7 p.m. Feb. 10 at the family residence, 95-5577 Poha St. Naalehu. Visitation will held from 9-10 a.m. Feb. 11 at Naalehu Assembly of God with a 10 a.m. funeral service. Burial to follow at Naalehu Community Cemetery. Casual attire.
He is survived by daughters, Precy (Alfredo) Nazaire of Discovery Harbor, Corazon (Perfecto) Mercado of Naalehu, Leticia Burgos of California, Norma Lynn (Cid) Salmo of Vermont and Suzanna (Alex) Bacdad of Hilo; sons, Benjamin Jr. (Terry) Salmo of Naalehu, Efren (Tracy) Salmo of Oregon, Edwin (Edith) Salmo of Waikoloa, Eddie (Theresa) Salmo, Rony (Tania) Salmo, all of Naalehu, Benjamin III (Chaz) Salmo of Kona; 75 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Paulino Yadao, 77, of Hilo died Jan. 12, 2017, at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Hilo, he was a retired cook.

He is survived by brothers, James Magno, Angel Magno, both of Hilo; sisters, Elizabeth Chavez of Santa Monica, Violet (Richard) Carvalho of Paauilo; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
