Margaret Tabura

Margaret “Margi” Pavao Tabura, 79, of Hilo died Jan. 24, 2017, at Hilo Medical Center. Born May 20, 1937, in Hilo, she was a food and beverage worker for Orchid Isle Hotel, Banyan Golf Course, Hilo Hawaiian Hotel, Black Angus Steak House in San Leandro, Calif. and Don Jose’s Mexican Restaurant in Castro Valley, Calif. She was also an Army veteran.

Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Feb. 2 at Dodo Mortuary chapel, Hilo with a 10 a.m. service. Inurnment will follow at noon at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 Columbarium. Casual attire.

She is survived by husband, Stanley Tabura of Hilo; sons, William, Allan (Carol), Milford (Olga) and David; daughters, Francine, Robin, Momi (Ronald) and Glenda; sister, Dolores Pavao of Florida; 22 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Elsie Tanaka

Elsie Yone Tanaka, 95, of Hilo died Jan. 12, 2017, at her home. Born in Naalehu, she was retired from the former Hawaiian Heart Co. and a member of Tenrikyo Hilo Church and Waiakea Uka Bible Church.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Feb. 3 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for an 11 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no monetary gifts or flowers.

She is survived by sons, Elton Tanaka of Honolulu, Alvin Tanaka of Hilo; daughters, Karen Tanabe, Lisa (David) Takahashi, both of Hilo; sisters, Nancy Ogawa, Amy Yamamoto, both of Hilo, Betty (Fred) Ito of Honolulu; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Edwin Valenzuela

Edwin Carlos Valenzuela, 61, of Kapaau died Jan. 16, 2017, in Kapaau. Born July 3, 1955 in Kapaau, he worked as a groundskeeper and was a former member of Kohala’s own I’land Boiz.

He is survived by wife, Blace; sons, Jentzen Valenzuela of Waikoloa; Edwin (Kanoe Conte) Valenzuela of Hawi; daughters, Kimi (Sione) Vakauta of Kohala; Mei Ling (Paulo Sauta) Valenzuela of Waikoloa; brothers, Ernest (Marsha) Valenzuela of Waimea, Lawrence (Fraline) Valenzuela of Hilo, Fredrick (Darnell) Valenzuela of Keaau, Raymond (Dawn) Valenzuela of Kapaau; sister, Florence (Camillo) Carlos of Kohala; nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 3 at Hilo Ballard Mortuary. Light refreshments will be served. A celebration of life will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 25 at Kalahikiola Congregation Church in Kohala. Condolences may be posted at Ballardfamilymortuaries.com.

Mitoyo Kamimura

Mitoyo “Ethel” Kamimura, 91, of Mountain View died Jan. 22, 2017, at the Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Mountain View, she was a homemaker, retired flower grower, seamstress, member of Puna Hongwanji Mission and various senior bowling leagues.

Friends may call from 3–4 p.m. Feb. 4 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 4 p.m. funeral service. Casual attire.

He is survived by sons, Russell (Shirley Ann) Kamimura of Mililani, Oahu, Garret (Patricia) Kamimura of Burlington, Wash., David (Joyce) Kamimura of Pearl City, Oahu, Wesley (Jan) Kamimura of Mountain View; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Violet Alfonso

Violet Moniz Alfonso, 95, of Honokaa died Jan. 22, 2017, at North Hawaii Community Hospital in Waimea. Born Aug. 13, 1921, in Honokaa, she was a homemaker and member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa.

Private service.

She is survived by sons, Ernest Alfonso Jr. and Robert (Paula) Alfonso of Kalopa and Rodney (Rose Marie) Alfonso of Honokaa, six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.
