HONOLULU (AP) — Attorneys with the Hawaii Innocence Project want a man’s conviction overturned in a 23-year-old woman’s 1991 death.
KHON-TV reported Albert Ian Schweitzer is serving a 130-year minimum prison sentence in the murder, rape and kidnapping of 23-year-old Dana Ireland.
The innocence project filed a motion this week.
Attorneys Brook Hart and Bill Harrison argue Schweitzer is innocent and his conviction should be overturned. They also say their client had ineffective counsel.
Hart previously said DNA evidence did not match Schweitzer.
The attorneys and the innocence project could not be reached for comment.
Two other men were sentenced in Ireland’s death.
