Donald Ah Chong Sr.
Donald Bertram Ah Chong Sr., 72, of Keaau died Dec. 17, 2016, at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired electrician and Nuclear General Forman for Shop 51 at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard on Oahu, a retired electrician from Hilo Hawaiian Hotel, a member of Na Alii Golf Club, Banyan Bay Golf Club, and an Army veteran.
Visitation will be from 10–11 a.m. Jan. 14 at New Hope Hilo Hawaii with an 11 a.m. celebration of his life. Visitation will also be held from 2:30–3:30 p.m. Jan. 21 at the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Memorial Chapel at Kamehameha Schools Kapalama on Oahu with a 3:30 p.m. celebration of his life. Casual attire. Family requests no flowers.
He is survived by wife, Bernadette Ah Chong of Hilo; sons, Donald (Renee) Ah Chong Jr. of Mililani, Oahu, Darren (Sonya) Ah Chong, Derek (Cindy Kaneakua) Ah Chong, Devin Ah Chong, all of Keaau; brothers, George (Caroline) Ah Chong of Kurtistown, John (Myrna) Ah Chong Jr. of Kaneohe, Oahu, Clifford (Debra) Ah Chong of Keaau; sister, Julia (Wayne) Takano of Kaneohe, Oahu; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Francis Kaaihue Jr.
Francis “Bolo Boy” Keawe Kaaihue Jr., 57, of Hilo died Dec. 27, 2016, at Hilo Medical Center. Born March 19, 1959, in Honolulu, he was a former apprentice painter for Hawaii Painting Co.
A celebration of his life will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 14 at Wailoa State Park, Large Pavilion. Casual attire.
He is survived by daughters, Cheryl Kekiwi, Chanel (Mana) Aguiar, Charana Kekiwi, Francine (Chad) Kekiwi-Todd, all of Oahu, Chuntel Kekiwi of Anchorage, Alaska, Lia (Brandon Cullio) Enaena of Mountain View, Kaainoa (Thomas Prieto) Enaena of Hilo, Kuu Enaena of Inglewood, Calif., Charlene Faalafua of Hilo; hanai children, Diamond Texeira of Oahu, Troy Napoleon of Hilo; sisters, Melody Kaaihue, Paulette Kaaihue, Pauline Kaaihue, Bobbie Jane Kaaihue, Joann Kaaihue, Muriel Kaaihue, all of Oahu; 34 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dorothy Caravalho
Dorothy Tomoe Caravalho, 92, of Honokaa died Dec. 14, 2016, at Hale Hoola Hamakua. Born July 1, 1924, in Pahala, she was a homemaker, retired from Tex’s Drive Inn and the former Honokaa Dairy Queen, and was a member of Honokaa Senior Club.
Private service to be announced at a later date. Family requests no flowers and no monetary offerings.
She is survived by daughters, Linda (Ken) Fischer, Carol (Craig) Yamaguchi, all of Waimea; son, Henry (Carla van Vliet) Caravalho Jr. of Waikoloa; sister, Peggy Nakano; brothers, Masa Nakano, both of Honolulu, Harry (Lily) Nakano of Waimea; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Carol Kalaau
Carol Ann Kalaau, 80, of Honokaa died Dec. 15, 2016, at home. Born in Flushing, N.Y., she was a retired director of nursing at former Honokaa Hospital, member of Our Lady Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa, senior advisor of the former Hawaiian Civic Club at Hamakua, member of the board of directors of Hamakua Health Center, volunteer of the former Hamakua Health Center Urgent Care, volunteer and auxiliary at Hale Hoola Hamakua, member of directors at Brantley Center, volunteer for Hawaii County RSVP.
Visitation will be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Jan. 14 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Honokaa for a noon service. Casual attire.

Richard Medve
Richard Stephen Medve, 80, of Hawi died Nov. 27, 2016, at his residence. Born Feb. 24, 1936, in Hermosa Beach, Calif., he was a trade show exhibit designer, art curator and designer for the International Game Fish Museum in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., a trophy fabricator for the Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament, a wood sculptor and a Coast Guard veteran.
Service will be held at 9 a.m. Jan. 20, 2017, at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to North Hawaii Hospice, 65-1328 Kawaihae Road, Kamuela, HI 96743.
He is survived by wife, Ann Medve of Hawi; sons, Jeffrey (Robin) Medve, Douglas (Melissa) Medve; one grandson, all of San Diego.

Terry Smith
Terry Glen Smith, 66, of Kailua-Kona died Dec. 19, 2016, in Kealakekua. Born July 17, 1950, in in Okefenoke, Georgia, he was a Vietnam veteran, started T.S. Drywall and was a former karate teacher at Waikoloa Greens.
He is survived by son, Nathan Smith of Honolulu.
