Friday night fire at scrapyard

Firefighters Friday night were wrapping up dousing a fire at a scrapyard off Honokohau Street in Kailua-Kona.

The fire, reported about 6:45 p.m., occurred near the top of the road at a scrapyard where vehicles are compacted, said Hawaii Fire Department Battalion Chief John Whitman. The fire produced hazardous smoke that also required the road to be closed for a couple of hours.

No injuries were reported.
