The Kailua-Kona Seniors will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hale Halawai.

Duane Pajimola from the Food Basket will speak about programs available for seniors and volunteer opportunities. January birthdays will be celebrated.

Introduction to bookkeeping Wednesday

The West Hawaii Small Business Development Center announced it will hold an introduction to bookkeeping, a workshop for business owners as well as those contemplating a new business venture of their own.

The workshop is scheduled from 9-11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Hale Iako Building at the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority. It will be presented by Ann Chiodini, who holds an MBA in accounting.

Chiodini will introduce primary bookkeeping principles and terminology, and will also cover basic financial statements.

Cost is $20 per person and there is limited availability.

Geology talk coming up

“From Hilo to Mauna Kea: A Geologic Tour along the Daniel K. Inouye Highway” will be presented from 3-4 p.m. Thursday and again from 7-8:30 p.m Thursday, Jan. 16 at the Lyman Museum in Hilo.

Jim Kauahikaua and Ken Hon will share the geology of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea, including lava flows and glacial features along the old Saddle Road and the new Daniel K. Inouye Highway. Cost is $3 for nonmembers or free to museum members.
