For the first time in her young career, Washington St. freshman and Konawaena grad Chanelle Molina was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week.
The weekly honor was announced Monday and is the first for the Cougs on the year.
Molina led the Cougars throughout the weekend as she guided Washington State to its first Pac-12 win of the year on the road at Oregon, 75-59, on Sunday. The game was the third-straight on the road to begin Pac-12 play for the Cougs who spent a month away from home to end non-conference play and begin the conference slate.
Molina averaged 14.0 points per game throughout the week, culminating in her first 20-point effort in the win over the Ducks in Eugene. She finished the weekend shooting .444 from the floor and .333 from deep while also leading the team in assists.
On the year, the first-year point guard is second on the team in scoring at 11.1 points per game while shooting .492 from the floor. She leads the team in assists with 51 for a 3.6 assist per game average. Molina has scored in double-figures in each of the last nine games for the Cougs, the longest active streak on the team.
Washington State returns to the hardwood Friday when they take on No. 10 UCLA.
