HONOKAA — Last Saturday, the Hawaii District Future Farmers of America Conference was held at Waiakea High School in Hilo. Students from a variety of schools competed in several competitions. Honokaa High School FFA members brought home two 1st place and three 2nd place awards.

HONOKAA — Last Saturday, the Hawaii District Future Farmers of America Conference was held at Waiakea High School in Hilo. Students from a variety of schools competed in several competitions. Honokaa High School FFA members brought home two 1st place and three 2nd place awards.

Students Ben Zingg and Romel Gaspar won 1st place in the Agriculture Demonstration category using precision analysis with drones. Gaspar also won 1st place in the Job Interview category.

For Extemporaneous Public Speaking, Marcartney Biegler won 2nd place for his “How organic farming system can contribute to an affordable and sustainable food system” demonstration.

Kahiau Kaniho and Biegler won 2nd place in the Plant Identification category by recognizing 100 landscape plants and their scientific names.

In the Chapter Record Books category, Phoenix Dunn, Sophia Cash and Hailey Witcraft won 2nd Place.

Students will next compete in the FFA State Convention on Kauai March 29-31.
