Lucy Cipriani

Lucy Poliahu Cipriani, 78, of Hawi died Nov. 27, 2016, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born April 11, 1938, in Kapaau, she was an assistant manager at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows. She was a family history consultant at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kohala Ward and a member of Na Kupuna O Kohala Halau.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Dec. 3 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kohala Ward in Hawi for an 11 a.m. funeral service. Burial will follow at the Hawi County Cemetery. The family requests casual attire and flowers are welcome.

She is survived by husband, Frank Cipriani of Hawi; sons, Alton (Carolee) Corotan of Los Alamitos, Calif., Clayton (Ann) Corotan, Keoki (Susan) Corotan, all of Hawi, Stanton (Lynda) Corotan of Waikoloa; daughter, Dawnell (Phillips) Ieremia of Laie, Oahu; stepson, Frank Ketcham of Tampa Bay, Fla.; step daughters, Athena Panagos of Bellingham, Wash., Shawnie Imbert of Wichita, Kan., Cassandra Sok of Seattle; brothers, George (Betty) Poliahu Jr., of Kaneohe, Oahu, William Poliahu of Kapaau; sisters, Kanani (Albert) Pagador of Union Mill, Jennie Payne of Hawi, Linda (Rex) Frandsen of Herriman, Utah; 21 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bernard Torres Sr.

Bernard Faisca Torres, Sr., 80, of Hawi died Nov. 27, 2016, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Hospital in Hilo. Born March 11, 1936, in Kohala, he was a ground maintenance worker at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, A Marine Corps veteran and a member of the Hawi Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Kohala.

Visitation will be held from 8-10 a.m. Dec. 3 at the Hawi Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Kohala with a 10 a.m. Mass. Casual attire and flowers are welcomed; burial at the Halawa Catholic Cemetery in Kohala.

He is survived by daughters, Lisa Ann Torres of Kohala and Teresa Leilani Emiliano of Hilo; sons, Raynard Torres of Kohala, Bernard (Yvonne) Torres Jr. and Matthew (Laura) Torres, all of Hilo; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Takao Honda

Takao Honda, 92, of Holualoa died Nov. 23, 2016, at the Kona Community Hospital. Born June 7, 1924, in Pahala, he was a laborer for Hawaiian Pines on Lanai and retired as a heavy equipment operator for Isemoto Construction Co. He was a member of Kamalumalu Kumiai, Kona Daifukuji Soto Mission, Operating Engineers Local Union No. 3 and a U.S. Army veteran.

Visitation will be at 3 p.m. Dec. 4 at Daifukuji Soto Mission in Honalo with a 4 p.m. memorial service. The family requests casual attire.

He is survived by son, Ross (Paige) Honda of Holualoa; daughters, Sharon (Robert) Rapoza of Waimea, and Annette Honda of Holualoa; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Clifton Tsuji

Clifton Kenichi Tsuji, 75, of Hilo died Nov. 15, 2016, at The Queen’s Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he retired from Central Pacific Bank as a senior vice president and neighbor island regional manager. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2004 and was chairman of the Agriculture Committee. Among his many awards, he was named the Hawaii Farm Bureau’s Legislator of the Year Award in 2015. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve, 442nd Infantry, Company B, Hilo. He was also active with the Hilo Medical Center Foundation, Hawaii Island Japanese Community Association, Pacific Tsunami Museum, Hiroshima Kenjin Kai, Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce, and the Kumamoto Kenjin Kai.

Friends may call from 2–4 p.m. Dec. 4 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 4 p.m. celebration of his life. Casual attire.

He is survived by sons, Ashley Tsuji, Ryan Tsuji, both of Honolulu; brother, Patrick (Doris) Tsuji of Honolulu; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
