AARP Smart Driver class planned
An AARP Smart Driver class is offered from 1-5 p.m today at the Palisades Recreation Center on lower Kaiminani Drive.
This class is geared toward the older driver. It does not include driving or written tests, only informative quizzes. It covers subjects that may affect drivers as they age, such as hearing, eye sight, reflexes, safety rules, road rage, rules of the road, and problems at intersections.
Participants may receive a discount on their insurance.

Read Aloud Shakespeare group meets
The Read Aloud Shakespeare group will gather from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Keauhou to read the Bard’s plays.
They will resume “The Merry Wives of Windsor” at the beginning of Act III. Shakespeare fans are invited to bring copies of the plays and join in. Attendees take turns reading the parts. No previous Shakespeare or acting ability is required.

Local Buddhist temple forms gay group
Daifukuji Buddhist Temple is forming a gay group, which open to gay women and men and their families and friends.
The meetings are from 6-7:30 p.m. on the first Friday of each month. Meetings start with 20 minutes of silent meditation. Those who are not experienced meditators should arrive 10 minutes early to receive instructions.

Senior ID cards issued
The Coordinated Services of the Elderly Program of the Elderly Activities Division issues Senior ID cards for those age 60 or older Monday through Friday at the Aging &Disability Resource Center in Hilo.
Cards will be issued from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Kailua-Kona Kmart, from 1-3 p.m. Dec. 7 at Hale Hauoli Senior Center in Honokaa, and from 9-11 a.m. Dec. 12 at the Kohala Coordinated Services of the Elderly. They will also be issued from 9-11 a.m. Dec. 13 at L. Yoshimatsu Senior Center, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Kailua-Kona Wal-Mart, and from 10 am. to 1 p.m. Dec. 28 at the West Hawaii Civic Center, Building B.
