Family Support Group facilitated by Community Children’s Council will meet from 5:30—7 p.m. tomorrow evening. During this monthly group, parents and caregivers of especially challenging children support each other by sharing their successes and challenges. Facilitators provide information on community, state and national resources and guidance on how best to navigate the systems of care for better outcomes for their child and family.
Maximizing A Ketogenic Friendly Diet will be shared from 5:30—6:45 p.m. tomorrow with Superfood Chef Todd Dacey. In addition to quick weight loss, enhanced energy, increased muscle performance and elevated blood levels, ketones have been found to be an effective treatment in reversing neurological decline. In this class we will explore ways to reach “ketosis” most easily, and how to prepare healthy “ketogenic friendly” dishes in a time-saving manner.
Dying for My Diet will be presented from 5:30—6:30 p.m. this Thursday. In this second of a three-part series, the topic will include two different forms of disordered eating, their signs, symptoms and outcomes. This will be woven into an experiential exercise to broaden awareness, bring new insight and deepen empathy for those who suffer from disordered eating patterns. Each of the programs in the series also stands alone, so attendees can attend any of them.
Writers’ Group Reads Their Work will be from 6—7:30 p.m.this Friday. Join this reading of original works by Tutu’s Writers’ Support Group. They meet weekly to share original in-progress work with one another. On this literary evening the group will share varied works of fiction, non-fiction and poetry, with topics that range from Hawaiian history, humor and relationships to romance, mystery and fantasy. The evening offers an opportunity to ask questions of the authors. Feel free to bring something to share on the pupu table.
Herbs for Optimal Health will be presented from 2—3:30 p.m. this Saturday with Dr. Deborah Ardolf, ND, SLP. Naturopathic physicians undergo extensive training in herbal medicine, along with many other forms of medicine. As an ND, Dr. Ardolf is trained to recommend foods and herbs as medicine to help people overcome ailments and furthermore support and maintain well-being. She will discuss the health benefits of readily available herbs that may be found in the spice rack or as herbal tea that can be used to help “calm”ails.
Neighborhood Watch (NHW) with Officer May Lee, South Kohala Community Police Officer, will meet from 5:30—6:30 p.m. on Nov. 21. Attend this meeting to learn about the Community Emergency Response Team, facilitated by CERT Co-Leader Tina Stuart. Learn what supplies are needed, how to communicate with loved ones and how to be safe during and after a disaster. Police, crime prevention and neighbors can work together to increase community safety and security.
