BIIF officials meeting for 2016-17 season

A basketball officials meeting for the 2016-17 Big Island Interscholastic Federation high school season will be held at the Hawaii County Parks and Recreation meeting room in Hilo on Nov. 6 at 4 p.m.

5K Run/Walk for Literacy in Waikoloa

FL-WR will be holding its 7th annual Walk/Run for Literacy on Nov. 12. Participants may pre-register at flwr-runforliteracy.com/2016/. The event will start and end at the Waikoloa School parking lot.

The race will start at 7:30 a.m. with on-site registration starting at 6:15 a.m.

Cost is $20 for adults pre-registered online, $30 for on race day, and $10 for keiki (12-and-under). Price includes an event T-shirt. Keiki in strollers are free. T-shirts are only guaranteed if registered before Oct. 15.

After the Walk/Run, there will a silent auction and a free health fair.

Keauhou Canoe Club hosts 19th annual Abbott Galaher SeaMan race

Keauhou Canoe Club will host the 19th annual Abbott Galaher SeaMan race on Saturday, Nov. 12. Registration will open at 7:30 a.m. and the race will start 9:00 a.m.

There will be two courses, both of which run straight out to sea and back into Keauhou Bay.

There will be a 3 mile course for juniors, novices, recreational and age 60+ paddlers and standup paddleboarders.

There is also a 5 mile course for age groupers in OC1 and OC2, as well as open division surfskis and V-1 rudderless canoes.

This event is an annual fund and food raiser for the Hawaii Island Food Basket, and reduced entry fees are charged for paddlers bringing a frozen turkey or six-pack of canned goods.

If donation of food is not brought for entry, a $10 donation to the Food Bank is requested.

Kona Country Club hosts Thanksgiving fundraising tourney

Kona Country Club will host a golf tournament to raise funds for less fortunate families to enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner. The tournament will be held on Nov. 13th at

7:30 a.m. with a shot gun start. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m.

The tournament format will be a two person scramble. Entry fee is $100 per person and includes a continental breakfast, pupu and lunch.

There will be a Closest to the pin at $10 for all par 3”s and $10 for two mulligans.

Hole sponsorship is also available.

The Challenge at Hokulia tournament

Big Island Sports Academy will host the Challenge at Hokulia on Nov. 14. The golf tournament is a two best ball of four format and costs $250.00 per person. The registration fee includes a cart, continental breakfast, awards BBQ luncheon, bag tag and lucky number drawings throughout the day.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. and a shot gun start will go off at 10 a.m. There will be awards for the top three teams and individual awards for longest drive, closest to the hole and hole-in-one.

Beanie Heen Memorial Paddle Race

The Beanie Heen Memorial Paddle Race will take place on Saturday, Nov. 26 starting at Surf Park at Kawaihae. The 7.5 mile race will including divisions such as OC-1, OC-2, SUP, surf ski and more. Entry is $30. There will also be music, food and prizes.

Registration open for Waimea Athletics boys basketball

Waimea Athletics is currently accepting boys basketball registration from now until Dec. 8, for the following divisions: 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14. Fee is $25 per person and includes a uniform, 8×10 league photo and team equipment. Coach volunteers are needed. The league will begin begin Jan 30.

Makalei Golf Club hosts 9 and Wine

Makalei Golf Club will host the next 9 and Wine golf outing on Saturday, Nov. 26. Registration will be at 1:30 p.m. with a Shotgun start at 2 p.m.

The outing will have a two person scramble format and cost $40 per person, which includes golf, cart, one beverage per person, pupu’s after play, fun prizes, contests and lots of comradely. All proceeds to benefit Diabetes Research.

Big Island Sports Academy hosts holiday softball camp

The Big Island Sports Academy and the Hawaii Department of Parks and Recreation will host a holiday softball camp and clinic Dec. 10-11 at Old Airport Park. The event, which is open to girls ages 10-18, will feature UCLA head coach Kelly Inouye Perez, and UH-Hawaii head coach Callen Perreira.

Cost is $100 per person and the fee includes a free t-shirt, camp photo, instruction, daily lunch, and a player evaluation.
