The Modern Maori Quartet comes to Kahilu Theatre on Wednesday.
The quartet brings the concept of a Maori Ratpack into the present with a contemporary twist, weaving their acting and musical abilities together to tell stories and fusing hearty and humorous Maaori storytelling with the Western tradition of show band entertainment. The show is at 6 p.m.; doors open at 5.
Their signature cabaret-style show, “An Evening with the Modern Maori Quartet,” promises a trip down memory lane as this multi-talented foursome bring a fresh twist to Kiwi golden oldies and a unique spin on recent international hits.
The group’s work highlights New Zealand’s musical past and present through a repertoire that blends old-school charm with modern pizzazz, featuring unique spins on Maori waiata, show band hits and pop music, all infused with group’s irresistible charisma, sublime harmonies, and universal humor.
Hailing from different corners of Aotearoa the Modern Maori Quartet consists of actor/musicians James Tito, Maaka Pohatu, Matariki Whatarau and Francis Kora.
Tickets range in price from $20-$68 and can be purchased online at www.kahilutheatre.org, by calling 885-6868, or at the Kahilu Theatre Box Office from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
