Celtica Pipes Rock with its unique sound of blazing bagpipes, mighty drums and the power of a rock band comes to the Big Island for two shows during November.
The band, comprising Gajus Stappen (electric guitar, drumming); Jane Espie (bagpipe); Duncan Knight (bagpipe); Harald Weinkum (bass, drumming); and Matthias Katzmair (drums) will be joined by special guest Christopher Hawley “Roots/Rocker.”
Professionalism and total commitment at every performance are the band’s key to success. Celtica has been booked as headliner of the biggest Celtic/Scottish events in Central Europe, and since their first U.S. tour, the band has played more than 80 shows in North America and has visited the U.S. 10 times.
In addition to Celtica Pipes Rock’s high-energy music, fire effects and flamethrowers on their instruments guarantee an exciting show: an event that’s sure to please all the senses.
After starting his professional career at age 16 playing classical guitar at an intimate dinner for a teacher and his soon to be fiancée as he proposed to her, Hawley was later influenced by his favorite band, Little Feat, Bob Marley’s songwriting, among many others, and Hot Dog the Movie. He has jammed with members of the Chili Peppers, Police, Blues Traveler, and Foo Fighters and even rejected a job offer from Hans Zimmer. He has released six albums.
The Hilo performance is at 9 p.m. Nov. 11 at Hilo Town Tavern and the Honokaa performance is at 7 p.m. Nov. 12 at Honokaa People’s Theatre.
