Pictures of vets needed before Nov. 11

The Disabled American Veteran Chapter 7 of Kona is hosting a Veterans Day celebration at the Veterans Cemetery in Kona on Nov. 11.

The group is looking for pictures of veterans in uniform to display at the celebration in their honor and is inviting all branches of service to be involved in the project. Tell your comrades and help make it a success.

Drop pictures at the Vet Center at the Hale Kui Plaza Suite 207 at 73-4975 Kamanu St. in Kailua-Kona. Please have photos to the Vet Center by Nov. 5.

The keynote speaker for the Nov. 11 event will be Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard.

Senior ID cards issued

The Coordinated Services of the Elderly Program of the Elderly Activities Division issues Senior ID cards for those age 60 or older Monday through Friday at the Aging &Disability Resource Center in Hilo.

Cards will also be issued from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday at Hale Hauoli Senior Center in Honokaa, 9-10 a.m. Nov. 14 at Pahala Housing Center, 11 a.m. to noon Nov. 14 at Naalehu Community Center, 9-11 a.m. Nov. 14 at Kohala Coordinated Services of the Elderly, 9-11 a.m. Nov. 15 at L. Yoshimatsu Senior Center in Waimea, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Kailua-Kona Walmart, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 22 at Yano Hall in Kealakekua, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 30 at West Hawaii Civic Center, Building B.

Hipp joins Liliuokalani Trust

HONOLULU – David Hipp has joined Liliuokalani Trust as its systems change manager, according to Nalei Akina, vice president and chief program officer.

Hipp will support the trust’s new strategic plan – to serve the most disadvantaged trust beneficiaries and to begin addressing root causes of poverty and stimulating systems change.

Hipp has been a leader in juvenile justice reform in the State of Hawaii and has been working with at-risk youth for 38 years. He previously worked as executive director with The Salvation Army – Family Intervention Services where he administered and managed an array of services for troubled youth and their families in Hawaii and Maui counties including outreach, diversion, intervention, shelter and residential programs on behalf of those most in need. Prior to Family Intervention Services, David worked in both the Lingle and Abercrombie administrations as executive director at the Hawaii Office of Youth Services, the state’s juvenile justice agency.

Free garden event Saturday

A free event at Amy B. H. Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden in Captain Cook will be held Saturday. The day begins with tours at 2:30 p.m. and a speaker/membership drive for new friends group members will be at 4 p.m.

Those wishing to join the friends group to help the garden can become members for $5.
