We no longer have government envisioned by founding fathers
This is in response to all the news reports, articles, editorials, and letters to the editor about taking a knee during the national anthem.
The executive and legislative leaders in Washington, D.C. started diverging from the moral or ethical path about 50 years ago. This movement has been increasing speed rapidly over the last 20 years and the judicial branch has joined with the executive and legislative branches against its citizens.
No country or terrorist organization has done or can do as much damage to our country as our elected leaders have managed. The founding fathers were a brilliant group of individuals who created our government. Unfortunately for us, we no longer have the government that they had envisioned.
The main problem for us that our elected leaders have created and could easily turn us into a third world country is our national debt and unfunded liabilities.
Money, it’s always about “follow the money.”
Our debt and unfunded liabilities is rapidly approaching $250 trillion or, if you prefer, a quarter of a quadtrillion dollars. To put this in a simpler term, this is more than the value of every public and private asset in the country.
We have to borrow money to service these obligations, let alone pay any of it down. Also, we have 10,000 people a day becoming eligible for Social Security.
The only way the Federal Reserve can see to keep on top of this is to create inflation to devalue the dollar. This way they can pay the interest with dollars that are worth less. Unfortunately, it also makes the citizens’ dollars worth less.
Our elected officials have created a scheme that can not end well. The world is waking up to our plight and has been working to replace the dollar as the reserve currency. This will really destroy the dollar’s value.
What other options do our elected officials have? One, they can default by telling the world they are not going to pay the obligations. Two, they can double the income taxes. Three, they can lower Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid payments. All this combined will probably not solve the problem.
When the elected officials started digging this hole and got in over their heads, they just kept digging, now they can’t get out.

Ignorance strikes again
I have written a number of letters to the editor but this is the hardest. On Oct 6 I wrote a letter in response to W. Keoki Kiwaha on his letter of support of the young football player for not standing during the playing of our national anthem as he was protesting some perceived injustice that happened over 100 years ago. However, W. Keoki Kiwaha seemed to have sincere feelings in his love for Hawaii. As a result of my research I attempted to explain what had happened by people who were there at the time and wrote about it within three years of the events.
Along comes Dennis Gregory as he attempted to “make waves.” With his unique gift in English, he proceeded to create a scenario of half-truths and false interpretations of the events at that time. Why let the truth get in the way of a well-written, pervasive column? For a person with five degrees, English related, he has taken his gift and attempted to inflame a critical issue. He is making waves to demonstrate the superiority of an imported haole from Texas. You must really hate America to state “So using the usual American underhanded trickery and military bluster when stealing a country …”
In regard to the military takeover as you call it, here is what Lt. Swinburne (the officer in charge of the Marines that landed) said to Mr. Carter who requested to see his orders, “to which he consented, saying, ‘You see my orders are to protect the Legation, the consulate, and the lives and property of American citizens, and to assist in preserving order, I do not know how to interpret that; I can do it in but one way. If the queen calls upon me to preserve order, I am going to do it.’”
Mr. Gregory use your well-honed language skill for good, not to inflame a small, vocal minority. Do your homework, research then pontificate.
