John Smith Jr.

John E. Smith Jr., 45, of Ocean View, died Oct. 16, 2016. He was born April 8, 1971, in Honolulu and worked as a police officer and also as a beekeeper.

Visitation will be 1-2:30 p.m Oct. 25 at Ballard Family Mortuary-Hilo, 750 Kinoole St., Hilo Hawaii.

He is survived by wife, Eva Smith; children, Naia Smith; Keanu Smith, Keala Smith, Nanalu Smith of Ocean View, Max Smith of Palm Bay Fla.; parents, Katherine Smith, John (Elizabeth) Smith Sr., of Ocean View; brothers, David Brown (Raquel Gali) of Paradise Park; Robert Brown (Leilani Ison) of San Francisco; Jason Smith of Arizona; sister, Rochelle Nobriga (David Bumgardner) of Hilo; 13 nieces and nephews.

Elpidio Ulep

Elpidio Derasin Ulep, 59, of Keaau died Oct. 8, 2016, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Dec. 15, 1956, in the Philippines; he worked at the True Value Orchidland General Store in Keaau and was a retired sergeant in the Hawaii Army National Guard. He also was member of the Waikahe Ward in Keaau

Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Oct. 26 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 7 p.m. service. Friends may call again at 9 a.m. Oct. 27 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 10 a.m. service. Casual attire and flowers are welcomed; burial to follow at noon at the East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 with military honors.

He is survived by wife, Marlen Ulep of Keaau; son, Elvin (Genalyn) Ulep of Keaau; daughter, Marla (Louie Collado) Ulep of Waikoloa; two grandchildren, Lyzell Makana Collado and Lauriezell Collado of Waikoloa; sisters, Aileen (Esteban) Calamayan of Kona, Lolita (John) Ramos of Waialua, Oahu, Emi (Artemio) Sibucao of Pahoa and Margie (Ruben Calamayan) Ulep of Keaau; brother, Dominador (Humi) Ulep of Waianae, Oahu; numerous nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces.

Sebastian Madarang Jr.

Sebastian “John” Mayo Madarang, Jr., 42, of Hilo died Oct. 6, 2016, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Feb. 16, 2016, in Honokaa, he worked as a dishwasher at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. Oct. 27 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10 a.m. Mass. Casual attire and flowers are welcomed; burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park, Ilima Section.

He is survived by mother, Wilhelmina Arellano of Hilo; sister, Grace (Juan) Barrientos of Keaau; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces from Hilo, Davao and Mindanao, Philippines.

Elizabeth Schultz

Elizabeth Ann Pahinui Schultz, 70, of Mountain View died Oct. 6, 2016, at home. Born May 9, 1946, in Honolulu, she was a homemaker.

Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 28 at Dodo Mortuary chapel, Hilo for a 10:30 a.m. service. Cremation to follow. Casual attire and no flowers.

She is survived by sons, Kunia (Momi) Galdeira, Kainoa (Ilima) Galdeira, all of Waimea, Kapoe (Ilima Cazimero) Galdeira of Hilo and Carmie Dee Treat of Honolulu; daughters, Kalama Galdeira of Waimanalo, Oahu, Treatie (Shawn) Schweitzer of Hawaiian Beaches; brothers, James (Kathleen) Pahinui of Waialua, Oahu, Phillip (Iris) Pahinui of Kailua, Oahu, Cyril Pahinui of Waikele, Oahu and Martin (Ruth) Pahinui of Waimanalo, Oahu; sisters, Madelyn Coleman of Arizona and Margaret (Tom) Puuohau of Waimanalo, Oahu; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
