HONOLULU (AP) — The Japanese owners of the Royal Hawaiian and the Moana Surfrider are being recognized for their work to restore the iconic Waikiki hotels.
HONOLULU (AP) — The Japanese owners of the Royal Hawaiian and the Moana Surfrider are being recognized for their work to restore the iconic Waikiki hotels.
Historic Hotels of America will present its Lifetime Achievement Award to Kyo-ya Hotels and Resorts and to Kyo-ya president Takamasa Osano at a ceremony at the Royal Hawaiian next week.
The organization will also honor Osano and Kyo-ya for their restoration and preservation of the Palace Hotel in San Francisco and the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa.
The Moana was built in 1901 and restored in 1988. The Royal Hawaiian was built in 1927. It underwent renovations in 2009 and 2015.
Historic Hotels of America is the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s official program for recognizing and celebrating the finest historic hotels.
