Harry Tabata

Harry Tabata

Harry Shigeyuki Tabata, 74, of Hilo, formerly of Hakalau, died Oct. 1, 2016, at his home. He was the former owner of Harry’s Auto Repair and had also worked as a mechanic for Jack’s Tours, the former Hilo Motors and the former Puna Sugar Company. He was also a part-time bus driver for Roberts Hawaii and a US Army Vietnam War veteran.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. Oct. 28 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 5 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by daughter, Lisa Turner of Hilo; brother, Charles Tabata of Honolulu; sister, Betty (Alfred) Castro of Honolulu; a grandchild, an aunt, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Faleafa Taveuveu

Mrs. Faleafa Taveuveu, 79, of Keaau, died at home on Oct. 7, 2016. She was born in Afao, American Samoa and was a retired employee with Starkist. She was also a member of the Congregational Church of Hilo.

Friends may call from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Lighthouse Outreach Center, 230 W. Kawailani St., Oct. 28, 2016 for a wake service at 5. Friends may also call at the Lighthouse Outreach Center from 9 to 10 a.m. Oct. 29 for a funeral service at 10, followed by burial at the Homelani Memorial Park. The family requests that casual attire be worn to the services.

She is survived by sons, Vaifoa Evagalia (Alofa) Taveuveu of Nua Ma Se’etaga, American Samoa, Rev. Iafeta (Pulotu) Veu of Lawton, Oklahoma, Fia (Glenda) Taveuveu, Jr. of Lawton, Okla., Rev. Akaimo (Terry) Taveuveu of Hilo, and Ulufale (Ema) Noa-Vae of Hilo; daughters, Taofi (Meafou) Leaumoana of Leone, American Samoa, Aperila (Lepisi Peni) Vou of Utumea, American Samoa, Luaipo’omalo (Mila) Milo of San Francisco, and Salome Taveuveu of Hilo; brothers, Tolu (Temukisa) Noa of San Diego, and Noa Faimafili (Ema) Vae of Asili, American Samoa; 33 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Jamie Walters

Jamie Michael Walters, 58, of Hilo died Oct. 7, 2016, at his residence. Born in Honolulu, he was retired.

Friends may call 3 to 4 p.m. Oct. 29, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel; a celebration of his life will begin at 4. Casual attire.

He is survived by wife, Sandy Chang-Walters of Hilo; sons, Joshua (Crystal) Walters of Kauai, Weston (Michealette) Yamada of Honolulu, John Walters of Kauai; daughters, Jerri-Lynn Walters of Kauai, Erica (Dree) Jefferson of Rapid City, S.D.; father, Harold (Heather) Guerrero of Hilo; brothers, Geraldo (Lisa Juan) Guerrero of Honokaa, Gerard (Peggy) Guerrero of Waimea, Chris (Lyn Galario) Guerrero of Hilo; sisters, Donna (Ralph) Villafuerte of California, Connie (Michael) Laimana of Hilo, Aolani (Kalani) Mills of Kailua-Kona; four grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Arthur Boxley Keaouanohoale Whittington

Rev. Arthur Boxley Keaouanohoale Whittington, 86, of Hilo died Sept. 5, 2016, at the Straub Hospital and Clinic on Oahu. Born in Waiohinu, Ka’u, he was the former reverend at Hilo Full Gospel Church, co-founder of KCIF (Christian Radio), a hospital and prison chaplain and a graduate of Kamehameha Schools Class of 1948.

Friends may call 9–10:30 a.m. Oct. 29 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel; a celebration of his life will begin at 10:30. Casual attire.

He is survived by wife, Sylvia Whittington of Hilo; sons, Patrick Whittington of Honolulu, Guy Whittington of Carson, California; daughters, Elizabeth (Benjamin, Jr.) Legaspi of Hilo, Claire (Mario, Jr.) Cordero of Hilo, Cecily (Kaloa) Robinson of Hilo; 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Dudley Hale

Dudley Clayton Hale, 75, of Kurtistown died Sept. 27, 2016, at Hilo Medical Center. He was born Sept. 1, 1941, in Long Beach, Calif.

He is survived by niece, Piper Pope; nephew, John Hale; and sister-in-law Kristine Hale of Long Beach, Calif.

Moses Kalilikane Jr.

Moses Kalilikane Jr., 75, of Holualoa died Oct. 13, 2016, at his residence. Born May 21, 1941, in Honolulu, he was a coffee farmer, a fisherman, auto mechanic and a charter boat deck hand.

No services are planned.

He is survived by wife, Jocelyn Kalilikane of Holualoa; sons, Moses (Lianne) Kalilikane of Kealakekua, and Jason Kalilikane of Holualoa; two grandchildren.

William Ivey, Jr.

William “Bill” Thomas Ivey, Jr., 88, of Kailua-Kona, died Oct. 15, 2016, at his residence. Born July 31, 1928, in Augusta, Ga., he retired from a distinguished career as a lawyer and judge.

Private service held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Kona, P.O. Box 4130, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii 96745.

He is survived by wife, Barbara Lehman of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Nena (Michael) Rippenkroeger of Phoenix, Ariz., Beth Ivey of Kailua-Kona; sister, Beki Moyer of Spartanburg, S.C.; two grandsons; numerous extended family and friends.

Irma Matsuo

Irma Chieko Matsuo, 58, of Kawaihae died Oct. 8 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born July 9, 1958, in Honokaa, she was a health aide for Waimea Elementary School.

Private service to be held.

She is survived by husband, George Matsuo; sons, Neil (Cathy Dagulo) Matsuo of Honolulu, Shaun (Courtney Shimabuku) Matsuo of Kawaihae; sister, Sandra Lynn (Kenneth) Uemura of Hilo; brother Ted Doi of Kawaihae; numerous nieces and nephews.
