KAILUA-KONA — The 36-year-old man whose body was found Tuesday afternoon off Highway 190 in North Kona died from a gunshot wound to the chest, the Hawaii Police Department said Friday afternoon.
Alanaokala Solomon Covington of Kailua-Kona was likely dead when his body was buried sometime during the daylight hours Sunday mauka of the highway near mile marker 27, police said. His body was located Tuesday afternoon and recovered Wednesday morning.
An autopsy conducted Friday determined Solomon Covington died from the gunshot.
Detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section are continuing the murder investigation.
