Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hawaii Island names regional director
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hawaii Island recently named Vanessa Carlson as its new regional director, bringing the agency’s total staff in East and West Hawaii to four. This is the largest number of staff the Hawaii Island agency has ever had, and their goal is to serve more children than ever before.
“We’re thrilled to have this new addition to our team,” said Dennis Brown, president/CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawaii. “With Vanessa’s leadership we hope to expand our services and reach on the island.”
Vanessa holds a Bachelor of Arts in communication from the University of Hawaii at Hilo and an Academic Certificate in women’s studies. Carlson anticipates completing her Master of Science in nonprofit management and leadership at Walden University this year. She has worked with youth on the island in various capacities for the past 15 years.
Her role as regional director will be to ensure community support functions, such as fund development, marketing and volunteer recruitment. Carlson will also work with regional board members and case managers to ensure the needs of the organization are met.
