Kona Stories hosts a nonfiction book club discussing “Lives in Ruins: Archaeologists and the Seductive Lure of Human Rubble” by Marilyn Johnson on Tuesday.

The group meets at 6 p.m. at the store. Book groups are free if books are purchased at Kona Stories, or a $5 donation is requested.

Johnson, the author of two acclaimed books about quirky subcultures “The Dead Beat” (about obituary writers) and “This Book Is Overdue” (about librarians) brings her irrepressible wit and curiosity to bear on yet another strange world, that of archaeologists. In the book, Johnson tracks archaeologists around the globe, digging alongside experts on an 18th century sugar plantation and in a first century temple to Apollo.
