WAIMEA — The 1.5-mile and 3-mile family-friendly event will be held at the school on Sept. 23. Now in its 4th year, proceeds from the fundraiser will help prepare the school’s new 9-classroom STEAM building.

Registration and a silent auction begin at 4 p.m., with the Run/Walk at 5 p.m. The stroller-friendly route will go around the campus and town.

Free dinner will be served beginning at 5:30 p.m. The silent auction will close at 6:15 p.m. Door prizes and auction winners will be announced at 6:30 p.m.

Prizes will include items and gift baskets handmade by Waimea Middle School(WMS) students and teachers, as well as gift certificates for shopping, meals, golf and vegetables.

For the first time, the event is being co-sponsored by Blue Zones Project – North Hawaii. An exhibit, smoothie bike and information on The Power 9, shared traits of the world’s longest-lived people, will be shared at a booth.

No pre-registration is required. The cost to participate is $5 per WMS or Waimea Elementary School (WES) student; $10 for a WMS or WES parent; or $15 for a community friend. Keiki under 8 are free. The fee includes an event t-shirt, while supplies last, and dinner.

Donations can also be made to sponsor WMS and WES students, allowing to participate for free, or for specified for families, faculty, staff and community members for a reduced $10 fee. To sponsor, call 887-6090, extension 222.
