A woman who was snorkeling at Pohoiki Beach in Puna apparently drowned, police report.
At 4 p.m. Tuesday police were responded to a report of an unresponsive woman. When police arrived, lifeguards and rescue personnel were attempting CPR. It was unsuccessful at the scene.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of her next of kin.
Police have initiated a coroner’s inquest investigation and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
