I read the headline of the “Annie Lane” column in the Sept. 4 issue of West Hawaii Today, “Girlfriend too pake to leave tip.” Is Wally Camp writing your headlines now? I am going to enjoy seeing how you deal with all the angry letters you get over this one.

Throwing money away
Well, Gov. David Ige has ordered a $59 million tax collection system to help catch tax cheats who don’t pay their TAT for their vacation rentals.
The thing is, the vacation rental hosts like Airbnb, VRBO, and Home Away offered to do it for the state like they do in many other states that are vacation destinations. Our governor was the first one to veto the bill. I read Hawaii has a surplus of cash now so does that mean that we should throw it away on stuff we don’t need? Think of all the free lunches the $59 million that would have provided for our overpampered children in Hawaii public schools. In the words of the Prophet Donald John Trump: “I hate stupid government.”
So do I, Mr. Trump

Security guards shouldn’t intimidate
I am a 66-year-old gold star wife, my husband died from exposure to agent orange at age 53 at home in Kona. I felt so happy to be able to see The Beach Boys 50th anniversary tour at the Waikoloa Hilton. Well, it started out well, I got the best seats available for my neighbor and I and spent over $200 for the tickets.
I don’t know what is wrong with resorts lately but their security guards seem to think we are suspects who need to be bullied and intimidated by them. Anybody who stood or danced at their seat was harassed by security as opposed to guest services, who were very nice. Are the folks at the resorts hiring other Corrections Corporation of America employees — who are sometimes cops?
Mike Love was so embarrassed by the cops that he motioned to the crowd to get up and enjoy the music. There are strange things happening here that go against our federally protected civil rights.
