KAILUA-KONA — A Captain Cook woman is dead after a two-vehicle collision Saturday afternoon on Kuakini Highway, just south of the Kamehameha III Road intersection.

Breanna Fujimoto, 20, was driving a 2016 Honda sedan and headed south when the vehicle crossed the center line and hit head-on a 2015 Nissan SUV that was traveling north.

The 38-year-old woman driving the SUV and her two children were taken to Kona Community Hospital. The mother and the 13-year-old boy were treated and released; the 11-year-old boy was transferred to The Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu. He was listed in stable condition on Monday, police said.

Fujimoto was pronounced dead at Kona Community Hospital at 4:19 a.m. Sunday.

The Traffic Enforcement Unit started a coroner’s inquest investigation and is asking for anyone who witnessed the crash to call Officer Justin Hooser at 326-4646, ext. 229. Those who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.
