Free estate planning seminar planned
Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union will help Hawaii Islanders prepare for the future with Estate Planning 101, a free seminar that explains estate planning basics, the need for up-to-date documents, and why it’s important.
The seminar will be held from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the credit union’s Kaloko facility, 73-5611 Olowalu St. in the John Y. Iwane Credit Union Center Training Room.
Presenter John Roth, attorney and program director of the Hawaii Trust &Estate Counsel, will discuss key topics such as learning the process of estate planning, preparing for the initial consultation, determining when it’s time to review or revise an existing plan and exploring common hypothetical scenarios.

WHEA hosts kanikapila and hoolaulea
West Hawaii Explorations Academy presents its 2016 Kanikapila Jam and Hoolaulea from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at its campus.
The event includes live entertainment from Hoku Paa, Darlene Ahuna, E Kolu Mea Nui and Sonny Lim, Alii Keanaaina, Keola Grace, Na Kahua, Sons of Keawe and Tomi Isobe’s Blues Band. The event also includes door prizes, cultural activities and food.
Tickets are $10 per person and kids age 10 and younger are free. Tickets are available at whea.net or at the door.
Elks to observe Patriots Day
Kona Elks Lodge will hold a Patriots Day luncheon Sunday.
Barbecue chicken, homemade macaroni and cheese, baked beans, biscuits and apple cobbler will be served. The bar opens at noon. Lee Stewart will give a farewell appearance before moving to the mainland, performing music for listening and dancing.
Those who wish to acknowledge Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance are invited, as well as those who are interested in becoming Elks.

Energy storage conference slated
The Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority is partnering with the County of Hawaii to host a conference on energy storage trends and opportunities Sept. 12-13.
The conference includes presentations and panel discussions as well as visits to site demonstrations. It aims to have the latest information presented by leaders in energy storage technology, particularly on the economics of energy storage. Meeting participants will also discuss opportunities as well as regulatory and policy issues.
The conference is open to the public.

Dinner meeting planned at
American Legion
The American Legion Kona Post 20 and American Legion Auxiliary will meet at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 14 at the Kona Elks Lodge, 74-5596 Pawai Place.
Fellowship and cocktails will start at 3:30 p.m. and meeting begins at 4. Dinner will be served after the meeting. Members who want to have dinner should call Post Commander Dave Carlson at 325-6491 or Vice Commander Antonio Gaspar at 345-5478 for reservations.
