Evelyn Costa
Evelyn Adeline Costa, 90, of Hilo died Aug. 21, 2016, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born Oct. 13, 1925, in Kona, she was a homemaker and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.
Friends may call at 8 a.m. Sept. 7 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10 a.m. celebration of Mass. Casual attire and flowers are welcomed; burial at Homelani Memorial Park, Section 7.
She is survived by son, Eugene Costa of Mountain View; daughter, Diane Martin of Aloha, Oregon; brothers, John Gomes of Hilo, Herbert (Julie) Gomes of Maui and George Gomes of Honomu; sisters, Louise (Merle) Coons of Vancouver, Wash., Mary Alice Hollenbeck of Santa Rosa, Calif. and Frances Wong of Carolina; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lucas DeRego
Lucas Makani DeRego, 18, of Glenwood died Aug. 27, 2016, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Dec. 27, 1997, in Hilo, he was a student at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, graduate of Kamehameha Schools Hawaii Class of 2016, and member of Saint Theresa Parish.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sept. 7 at Kamehameha Schools Hawaii Campus William Charles Lunalilo Center, 16-716 Volcano Road, Keaau. Friends may call at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 8 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10 a.m. Mass. Urn committal service at 9 a.m. Sept. 9 at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No.2. Family requests casual attire be worn.
He is survived by parents, Joseph and Nancy DeRego of Glenwood; siblings, Maggie DeRego, Teddy DeRego, Marybeth DeRego, all of Glenwood; grandparents, Ivy DeRego of Port Orchard, Wash., Pamela and Michael Aqui of Kailua, Oahu, Theodore and Stephanie Pochinski of Nuuanu, Oahu; numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Howard Tatum
Howard Randall Tatum, 86, of Marana, Ariz.died July 29, 2016, at the Casa De La Luz—Kanmar Place hospice in Tucson, Ariz. Born in Lone Pine, Calif, he was a retired meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Hilo, served on the Parish Council of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo, was a member of the Young Men’s Institute Francis Council No. 573, Ancient Order of Foresters Court Mauna Kea No. 8854, Rotary Club member, former director of the Hawaii Island United Way and the Hawaii State and Federal Federal Credit Union; former member of the Hawaii Island Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and a Navy veteran.
Friends may call at 9 a.m. Sept. 10 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 10 a.m. service. Friends may also call at 9 a.m. Sept. 12 at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 for a graveside urn committal service. The family requests aloha attire be worn.
He is survived by wife, Mary Ann Tatum of Marana, Ariz.; son, David (Wendy) Tatum of Mountain View; daughters, Genevieve (Israel) Aiona, Barbara (Gary) Kuikahi, both of Hilo, Laura Rillamas of Keaau, Donna (Monty) Stockstill, Mona (Breana Milidrum) Tatum, all of Mountain View, Anita (James Hanley) Tatum of Kurtistown; sister, Mary (Roy) Vance of Apple Valley, Calif.; stepdaughter, Michelle (Phil) Barry of Minneapolis; 23 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, three great-great-granddaughters, two step grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
