KAILUA-KONA — Four people were taken to island hospitals Thursday morning following a head-on collision involving two trucks at the 24-mile marker of Highway 190, or Mamalahoa Highway.

Hawaii Fire Department Battalion Chief Ty Medeiros said there were “no major injuries” suffered by any of the passengers. The department said earlier this morning there were five patients involved in the crash, but that number was later updated to four patients.

The crash involved a pickup truck and a mid-size refrigerated delivery truck, Medeiros said.

Medeiros said the call about the crash came in at 8:52 a.m. The patients, all of whom are adults, were taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital and Kona Community Hospital via ground units and helicopter.

Both lanes in the area were closed following the crash. Medeiros said at 12:30 p.m. that the lanes have reopened.
