On Thursday, the Rotary Club of Kona will hear from Toni Ivey of Aloha Trade Exchange. Direct barter or trade has been a part of island life since the ahupuaa system. Ivey will talk about how a company can get many of the things they need to grow their business through a third-party trade organization. Movie day planned for seniors
The Kailua-Kona Seniors will attend a movie day at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24 at West Hawaii Civic Center Building A.
The event is open to all interested seniors. The title of this month’s movie is “Learning to Drive.”
Kailua-Kona Seniors will not meet at Hale Halawai this week.

Soroptimists hold evening social
Soroptimist International of Kona, founded in 1971, is a service club working locally and globally to make a difference in the lives of women and children through scholarships, programs and projects to educate, empower and enable.
Anyone interested in learning more about the Kona Soroptimist club is invited to an evening social from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The district director of Founder Region will talk about the Soroptimist mission and goals in the organization’s communities.

New dentist in Kealakekua
Emilio Hernandez, DDS has joined the practice at Hawaii Dental in Kealakekua.
Hernandez was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. He graduated from the University of Miami with a bachelor’s degree in biology and a minor in chemistry. He worked as an oral care research and development intern at Colgate-Palmolive. Hernandez then graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry where he was honored by receiving the Clinical Achievement Award for Excellence in Restorative Dentistry.
