At 1:11 p.m. Tuesday, police received a report of a body floating about 1 mile north of Honolii Point. Hawaii Fire Department personnel recovered a male body, which was taken to Hilo Medical Center.

The fire department, in a media release, said a man in a 13-foot Boston Whaler boat had located the man and reported it. He remained with the body until personnel arrived.

An autopsy is slated Aug. 23 to determine the cause of death. Police have not identified the man, described as Caucasian, slim, in his mid-30s with red medium-length hair and a red goatee.

Police ask anyone who knows his identity or who has any information about this case to call the department’s nonemergency line at 935-3311 or contact Detective Wendall Carter at 961-2378 or wendall.carter@hawaiicounty.gov.
