Alfredo Cabanting, Sr.
Alfredo Cacho Cabanting, Sr., 87, of Keaau, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2016, at Legacy Hilo Rehabitition and Nursing Center in Hilo. He was born on Dec. 30, 1928, in Narvacan, Ilocos Norte, Philippines; Alfredo was married to Leonila Cabanting for 65 years. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for the former Puna Sugar Company and a proprietor for a papaya farm and guava farm.
Friends may call Aug. 19 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wake service at 7 p.m. An all-night vigil to follow at the family residence at 16-281 Pohaku Drive, Keaau. Casual attire and flowers are welcome; burial at the Homelani Memorial Park (Ilima Section) at 10 a.m. on Aug. 20.
He is survived by wife, Leonila Cabanting of Keaau; daughters, Glory Nemedez of Reno, Nev., Nelie (Alfredo) Lazaro and Chastity (Justin) Young of Henderson, Nev.; Merlin Foreman of Keaau; sons, Alfredo (Vilma) Cabanting, Jr. of Buena Park, Calif., Michael (Maria Lourdes) Cabanting of Hilo and Benido Cabanting of Kohala; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Nathaniel Kuakapuonaali’i “Scooby” Kekahu, 19, of Puna, died July 19, 2016, at home. Nathaniel was born on Nov. 1, 1996, on Oahu. He worked as a mason.
Celebration of life to be held at Ballard Family Mortuary-Hilo (570 Kinoole Street Hilo, on Aug. 19. Visitation at 5 p.m., service at 6 p.m. A second celebration of life will be held at Ballard Family Moanalua Mortuary in Oahu (1150 Kikowaena Street Honolulu) on Aug. 26, 2016. He is survived by his mother, Angela Kekahu of Keaau; father Charles Kekahu of Keaau; grandmothers Diane Kekahu of Keaau, and Mary-Lynne Ludloff of Kaneohe; brothers, Hekili Richie of Kaneohe, Charles Kekahu Jr. of Puna, and Kekoa Shipman of Puna; sisters Mary Richie of Kaneohe, Hoku Richie Kekahu of Puna, Charity Kekahu of Puna, and Katriel Kekahu of Puna; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Charles Arthur Cunningham Jr., 32, of Mountain View, died July 24, 2016. Charles was born on Dec., 7, 1983, in Hilo.

Kenneth A. Kawamoto, 68, of Volcano, died Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at home. Kenneth was born on Dec. 28, 1947, in Honolulu.
He is survived by his wife, Rochelle Mathieu; sons James (Misti) Algeo of Reno, Nev., and Nicholas (Betty) Algeo of Alberta, Canada; daughter, Erin Algeo of Oakland, Calif.; brothers, Rodney Yoshito Kawamoto (Fides) of Honolulu; four grandchildren; one nephew.

Helen Nobriga
Helen Jean Nobriga, 77, of Hilo, died at the Life Care Center of Hilo on June 14, 2016. She was born in Des Moines, Iowa, and was a retired administrative assistant with the Big Island Substance Abuse Council.
Private family services were held.
She is survived by her sons, Michael Shivvers of Washington state, Brian Shivvers of Washington state and Gordon Nobriga, Jr. of Arizona; hanai son, Kevin (Alberta) Urubio of Hilo; daughters, Robin (Charles) White of California, Jackie (Steve) Boese of California, Michelle (Steve) Arakawa of Mililani, Oahu, and Noelani (Frank) Wilson of Mesa, Ariz.; hanai daughters, Nahoku Gaspang of Hilo, and Roxi Kamelamela of Hilo; 13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and members of Hula Halau Kahikilaulani.
