This month’s selection is “Age of Ambition” by Evan Osnos. The book chronicles the lives of people that Osnos came to know while traveling in China and was awarded the 2014 National Book Award for nonfiction and was a finalist for the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for general nonfiction. China has remained a one-party state intolerant of political opposition, even as it has encouraged private investment and overseen a period of economic growth that rivals any in human history. Osnos interviewed people swept up by economic, political and social change while reflecting on the political implications.

The book club next meets in September to discuss “The Beautiful Mystery” by Louise Penny.
